Four Paws Press Announces
Lucy and the Squirrel: Spring
A Gentle New Adventure Celebrating Renewal, Friendship, and the Wonder of Spring
St. Louis, Missouri. Four Paws Press proudly announces the release of Lucy and the Squirrel: Spring, the third seasonal installment in the growing Lucy and the Squirrel picture book series by DA Schrader.
Following the warm autumn charm of Fall and the quiet magic of Winter, Spring invites young readers back into Lucy’s backyard as the world slowly wakes from the cold season. Flowers begin to bloom, trees stretch toward the sun, and familiar sounds return to the air. From her window, Lucy notices something changing outside and soon discovers her playful squirrel friend Sammy once again exploring the yard.
Written for children ages 3–7, Lucy and the Squirrel: Spring blends gentle storytelling with emotionally rich watercolor-style illustrations designed for calm read-aloud moments, bedtime routines, and family connection.
The story follows a soft emotional arc of discovery, playfulness, reflection, and quiet comfort. Throughout the book, themes of friendship, seasonal change, curiosity, and emotional safety are presented in a way that encourages children to slow down and observe the small wonders around them.
“Spring carries a different kind of energy,” said author D. Schrader. “It’s softer than excitement and quieter than adventure. It’s the feeling of noticing life returning again. Lucy experiences that in a very small backyard way children immediately understand.”
Like previous volumes in the series, the book was designed with intentional pacing, visual warmth, and read-aloud rhythm in mind. The illustrations emphasize soft natural light, expressive character moments, and a recognizable backyard setting that evolves through the seasons alongside Lucy and Sammy’s friendship.
Lucy and the Squirrel: Spring is part of the continuing seasonal collection published by Four Paws Press, an independent publisher focused on heartfelt children’s stories centered on comfort, imagination, animals, and emotional connection.
The Spring volume joins:
