Created for children ages 3–7, this picture book follows a once-stray dog whose friendship with a river guide named Boat leads to a new home, exciting adventures, and an opportunity to help someone in need.
Inspired by a real dog and his river-guide companion, Topton’s story takes young readers from lonely beginnings to life beside the river. As Topton learns to trust Boat and find his footing in a raft, he discovers that belonging can give him the courage to face unexpected challenges. About Four Paws Rescue Tales

About the Author
D. Schrader is a St. Louis-based author, illustrator, and founder of Four Paws Press. After a career spanning approximately 40 years in engineering, program management, and executive leadership, he turned his love of dogs and storytelling into children’s picture books. Known as “Paw Paw” to his grandchildren, he creates stories that families can share, with an emphasis on friendship, kindness, and finding home.
