ST. LOUIS, MO – Four Paws Press is proud to announce the release of Kierra Goes to Camp, the first book in the new Four Paws Rescue Tales children’s picture book series by author D. Schrader.
Written for children ages 3–7, Kierra Goes to Camp tells the story of Kierra, a Labrador Shepherd mix who once lived on the streets. Before she found a home, Kierra learned to be careful, alert, and always ready to run. But now she is safe, loved, and heading to camp for a brand-new adventure.
At first, the woods, the lake, and all the unfamiliar sounds feel overwhelming. Then Kierra meets Boss, a confident black Labrador who knows camp like home. With Boss beside her, Kierra slowly begins to explore, play, and discover that the world can be joyful, gentle, and full of new friends.
The book introduces young readers to themes of rescue, trust, healing, bravery, and friendship in a soft, age-appropriate way. Through Kierra’s journey, children see that courage does not always mean being fearless. Sometimes courage means taking one small step forward when something feels new.
Kierra Goes to Camp also marks the beginning of Four Paws Rescue Tales, a new picture book series celebrating rescue dogs and the many paths that can lead them to safety, love, and belonging. Future stories in the series will explore different kinds of rescue journeys, each with a hopeful ending for young readers and families who believe every dog deserves a second chance.
