Four Paws Press Announces Missy’s Second Chance, a Heartwarming New Four Paws Rescue Tale

New children’s picture book about love, healing, and finding home will be available September 1, 2026

ST. LOUIS, Missouri, September 1, 2026 – Four Paws Press LLC announces the release of Missy’s Second Chance, the third book in the Four Paws Rescue Tales series, available beginning September 1, 2026.

Written and illustrated by D. Schrader, Missy’s Second Chance introduces young readers to Missy, a Labrador mix whose life changes when she becomes sick and needs more care than her first family can provide.

When a veterinarian discovers that Missy has Addison’s disease, Missy begins receiving the treatment she needs. But she still needs something medicine alone cannot provide: a family willing to understand her needs, care for her, and give her a place to belong.

That is when Mom and Dad enter her life.

They learn that caring for Missy means paying attention. They notice when she does not feel quite right. They make sure she gets her medicine and regular veterinary care. Most importantly, they help Missy discover that she is safe, loved, and finally home.

As Missy grows stronger and more confident, that same ability to notice when something is wrong takes on new meaning during a walk in the woods. This time, Missy is the one who notices someone else who needs help.

Designed for children ages 3–7, Missy’s Second Chance combines a gentle rescue story with themes of compassion, responsibility, trust, and the special bond that develops between rescued animals and the families who welcome them home.

The book also introduces families to the idea that some rescued animals have ongoing medical needs. A parent and caregiver note at the end of the book provides a simple explanation of Addison’s disease in dogs and encourages families to talk with their veterinarian about an individual animal’s care.

Missy’s Second Chance is the third title in the Four Paws Rescue Tales series from Four Paws Press. Each story follows a different rescued dog and celebrates the idea that rescue is not simply about where a dog came from. It is about what can happen when someone gives that dog a chance.
